These video scenarios feature James Pond – a bumbling private investigator – who runs his investigation business from a park bench. Angel, a media-savvy teenager, secretly assists him. James and Angel have realistic (and entertaining) problems to solve. For example, a cyclist has forgotten his lock combination but can remember a few number clues. James and Angel use these clues to try to figure out the combination using different strategies. Students watch the video to find out the problem and then work out their own strategies to find the solution. They then compare their strategies with those used by the two characters. A challenge problem (a further complication) is also presented at the end of each scenario for students to solve. The three levels of books and accompanying DVDs in this series feature the same scenarios and characters but with increasingly complex problems to solve. Click here to find out how the videos can be used to support the teaching of your mathematics curriculum. Suitable for upper primary students. The books provide support for the teacher with: photocopiable summaries for each problem solving episodeteaching notes with key questions for each stagethree sample solutions for each episode with assessment rubricsthe solution for the challenge questions About the series: Each of the View & Do Problem Solving books provides eight 3-minute realistic contexts on DVD that have been created to demonstrate how to use a range of maths problems solving strategies. The stimulus for problem comes from the video and students are encouraged to select their own strategies for investigating the situation and providing solutions. The design of the video segments and the problems posed enable the busy teacher to fully implement the proficiency strands of; understanding, fluency, problem solving and reasoning as outlined in the Australian curriculum as well as covering the eight General Capabilities.View ACARA disclaimerTerms and Conditions:- Please choose carefully as this product cannot be refunded once PDF has been downloaded.- This downloadable PDF does not contain the CD Rom from the hard copy version- Credit card orders only; this product cannot be purchased on 30 Day Preview or School Invoice.
