Reading Levels 1–6
At the Emergent stage, children show a real interest in reading and develop an awareness that print carries a message. They match the spoken word with written text and understand that text is read from left to right.
The Emergent stage books include:
- simple sentence books with repeated, predictable patterns
- simple texts with a single concept/topic
- strong picture/text cues
- texts built on the natural oral patterns of children
- simple nonfiction features – labels, picture glossaries, calendars and graphic symbols. |
