The book Games We Play is about the history of children's games. At our school, there are children from many different backgrounds, We all love playing games, so we decided to learn about the different games we play and where the games come from. Not only is learning about games a lot of fun, it is also a great way to learn about the other cultures in our school community.

Some children's games have been played for centuries. Swings existed on the island of Crete in 1600 BC and jacks (knucklebones) a game that involves tossing and then catching five or more jackstones, was played in ancient Greece. Both blindman's budd and a chase games, in which one teach chases another team depending on the toss of a coin or disk, date from 2 000 years ago.

Many games are remnants of ancient religious or mystic rituals. Hopscotch is related to myths of labyrinths and later came to symbolise the soul's journey from Earth to heaven. Another ritual involved batting an object into the air as many times as possible without letting it drop to the ground. This was said to determine the length of one's life.

The underlying values in the book Games We Play are:
- Inquiry and curiosity
- Diversity
- Understanding
- Inclusion
Hello and Bonjour! At our school, we speak English half of the time, and French the other half. Our school is bilingual – that means we speak two languages. Learning at a bilingual school is fun, particularly when we get to celebrate Bastille Day with French food, French costumes and French decorations.
France is the largest country in Western Europe. It shares its border with six other countries - Spain, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland and Italy. It is known throughout the world for its cuisine and is an international centre for the fashion industry. France has a population of about 58.6 million. It's capital, Paris is the centre of French government, banking, business, art and culture. Millions of tourists flock to Paris each year to see its sights, eat at its famous restaurants and shop in its luxury stores.

The underlying values in the book Hello and Bonjour! are:
- Inquiry and curiosity
- Responsibility
- Understanding
When Afdal starts school in a new country, he is both excited and scared. Will he have anything in common with his new classmates? Afdal soon learns that although some things may be different from his old school, one thing remains the same- playing soccer is just as much fun!
Iraq is often referred to as the cradle of civilization. Archaeologists have discovered tools and human skeletons dating back hundreds of thousands of years. Iraq shares borders with Saudi Arabia and Kuwait in the south. Jordan and Syria to the west, Turkey to the north, and Iran to the east. The capital is Bagdad, situated on the Tigris River.

Saturdays are a busy time for the children in Ukrainian communities. That’s the day they go to school to learn the language, stories and games of Ukraine – and how to dance like Cossacks!
Kate’s school has a program which gives students the chance to meet people from other countries. Kate is very lucky – she is one of eight students who have been chosen to go to India. For one month she will live with an Indian family, go to the local school and take in the sights and sounds of India. In return, children from India will come visit Kate’s school.
The schools in this book were part of an international student exchange program called the International School-to-School Experience (ISSE). It is a unique program which provids primary school students with the opportunity to experience and understand other cultures on a first-hand basis. It is a non-profit, non-political and non-religious in nature. The objective of the ISSE program is to allow primary school students to interact with and learn from other children of the world, thereby fostering peace and understanding on a global basis.
The underlying values explored in the book Student Exchange are:
- Inclusion
- Respect and care
- Sincerity
Problem solving, inventiveness, higher-order thinking skills: these are all skills that we would like to see more of in our students. But more often than not, children believe that these skills exist only in the realm of talented, highly skilled professionals. Wonder Wits will make them think otherwise.
In the book Artrageous, Aunt Stella takes Sophie and Luke on an 'artrageous adventure' where the plan is to 'look, collect, draw and look some more' and come away inspired to create wonderful works of art. Luke randomly choose their destination with a well-aimed dart at the map and after a fast-paced game of 'Imagine This Imagine That' they arrive at Far Bay.
Aunt Stella encourages the children to use their 'art eyes' to pick up on 'patterns, shapes, and textures that our normal, everyday eyes don't see'. The three artists walk amongst the rock pools and explore the rock platforms, collecting shells, rock textures and pieces of flotsam.
The children use cardboard frames ('windows of inspiration's as Aunt Stella calls them) to focus their art eyes on specific scenes and discover that what each person sees, imagines and captures on paper is completely different.
Back home Sophie and Luke experiment with the materials, ideas and techniques they have learnt. Their paintings and sculptures so impress Aunt Stella that she includes their work in her next exhibition.

Problem solving, inventiveness, higher-order thinking skills: these are all skills that we would like to see more of in our students. But more often than not, children believe that these skills exist only in the realm of talented, highly skilled professionals. Wonder Wits will make them think otherwise.
In the book Boney Puzzle, Sophie and Luke want to enter the 'Clever Creators' competition but are stuck for an idea of what science exhibit they could make. While shifting boxes for Sophie's neighbour Mr Costa the children receive a visit from Nicholas Wilson (the 'world's biggest cheat' according to Luke) who brags of his planned entry: a mini rocket launch. Mr Costa then makes a suggestion - how about an exhibit that shows how whole dinosaurs are 'created' from fossil fragments by scientists and technicians.
Luke and Sophie are enthused by this original idea and visit the museum where they meet palaeontologist Erica Monroe. She takes them on a guided tour where they see fossils being unpacked and cleaned, fossil moulds constructed, the use of databases to search for matches to existing species and the way computers are used to make 'guesstimates' about skin colour, speed and even sounds.
The children work hard to make their exhibit and are rewarded when the judges award them (and Mr Costa) first prize. And Nicholas? His rocket has a teensy malfunction on the launch pad...
Problem solving, inventiveness, higher-order thinking skills: these are all skills that we would like to see more of in our students. But more often than not, children believe that these skills exist only in the realm of talented, highly skilled professionals. Wonder Wits will make them think otherwise.
In the book Game Plan, cosmic creatures are Luke and Sophie's favourite toy and they are excited to receive a letter from the toy's 'brain brilliant' creator, Professor Flukelar. The letter is an invitation to spend the day at the professor's estate, and excitement quickly turns to amazement when they discover that he has his own roller coaster as well as a giant chess set.
The professor takes them on a tour of the toy hall where they learn about ancient games such as marbles, yoyo's, board games and modern toys such as Play-dough, frisbee's and Slinky's. The children ask the professor where he gets the ideas for his own inventions from and he explains the importance of asking 'what if'. He also shows them his Mix 'n' Match machine which he uses for generating ideas and associations between random objects, and he introduces them to the concept of making a prototype to test ideas on.
Returning home, Luke and Sophie then apply their new knowledge and skills to create, design, prototype and construct a toy for a toy invention assignment. Professor Flukelar's tuition pays off; their teacher Mr Todd considers both their toys to be 'wonderful creations'!
Problem solving, inventiveness, higher-order thinking skills: these are all skills that we would like to see more of in our students. But more often than not, children believe that these skills exist only in the realm of talented, highly skilled professionals. Wonder Wits will make them think otherwise.
In the book Look Out!, Luke and Sophie are working on a new invention: the Boomerang Ball. They're not having much luck though, as Luke's dog Gizmo keeps running off with it. Down at the park they accidentally throw the ball into a tree and are lucky enough to meet Erica Longly, an 'accidental' inventor. She shares her favourite 'accidental' recipe with them (Serendipity Surprise Crumble) and tells the children about different accidental inventions such as choc chip cookies, Post-It notes and stainless steel. Just as they leave, the Boomerang Ball falls from the tree and by the time they retrieve it, Gizmo has chewed it to pieces. But rather than be upset Luke and Sophie are inspired to create the Peeler Ball - a ball made with dogs in mind.

In the book Wonder Worlds, Harvey Barker, creator of the highly successful Unveiler of Stray World series, has just announced he isn't going to write any more episodes - and he's Sophie and Luke's favourite author! The children know they can't let this happen without a fight and a quick call to Sophie's Aunt Meg confirms their guess. HB has gone fishing.
The children surprise the author down by the river but this is nothing to the surprise he gets when the children pass on the news. Far from quitting, HB has simply decided he wants to share the writing of the series with other authors and a quick phone call fixes the misunderstanding.
In return for their help HB invites Luke and Sophie to help him with the next book. A quiet spot of fishing helps get the ideas flowing for a new Stray World book. Then, HB explains the process for creating an imaginary world. First you ask the what questions: What if?, What about?, What could?, What would? and What should?. Then you decide on the details and rules that make the world come to life. After a lot of planning and drafts episode 78
Zeke Wilson Unveils Roygbivia' is finally finished and published.
Imagine being blind and unable to see where you are. How would you find your food? You would be very worried about someone attacking you.

Animals, fish and insects all have species that spit fluids on others. They do this to protect themselves and to scare off their enemies.
Spiders, snakes, jellyfish, octopus and fish all have species that can kill. They can poison other creatures.
All they want is a little of your blood—or blood from any other living thing for that matter.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But what makes them ugly actually helps them hide, fight or catch food. Being big is a great way to beat others to food, push away enemies or simply stand on those you do not like. In the animal world you may be the biggest of your species but still be small compared with other animals.
Why do hummingbirds perform aerial acrobatics? Why do pumas jump so high? Why do cheetahs need to run so fast?

All birds are animals. But not all animals are birds. If an animal does not have wings it is not a bird.
The striped polecat is the smelliest animal in the world. You can smell it from 1.5 kilometres away! A male elephant is 1000 times smellier than a pig.
Life is stranger than fiction, especially in the wild animal environment. Imagine a huge rhinoceros letting a tiny oxpecker bird walk on its back and feed off its parasites.

Some animals migrate short distances while others travel thousands of miles. The tiny Arctic tern flies from the Arctic Circle to the Antarctic and back each year. Other animals migrate.....
More species of animals are disappearing from the earth today than at any time since the dinosaurs. Some owe their extinction to humans as they fight for habitat or are sought after for human needs.
In Pelican's Pride, Mr Pelican thinks he is as smart as he is handsome. He seems to do no work, and yet he is sleek and well-fed.

Special Features:
- Character page - introduces the main characters in the story.
- Illustrated content page - a feature that can be used with students as a pre-reading entrance into the text.
- Author/Illustrator page - both author and illustrator answered the same list of questions student's ask.
- Illustrated Glossary - difficult words are defined and illustrated in a two page glossary.
- Map page - a map of the place where the story takes place.
- Benchmark book - to provide opportunities to assess reading progress, comprehension and understanding, vocabulary development, personal response and recognizing features of a text type.
