| The My Alphabet Kit Handbook is a comprehensive teacher resource book packed with exciting ideas to help students build sound awareness, discover letter - sound relationships and explore letter names and shapes.
The activities are presented in alphabetical order to make them easily accessible. Dip into the Hanbook and introduce the sounds/symbols according to the needs, experiences and interests of students; the themes or units of work being undertaken; and the aims and outcomes being worked towards in your own classroom.
Activities for each letter are presented on a double-page spread. The first page deals with the acquisition of phonemic awareness skills, the making of connections between the sounds and their visual representations, and ways of using these connections to decode unfamiliar text when reading. This will, in turn, lead to students being able to make generalisations about letter-sound relationships as an aid for writing. The second page provides a wealth of cross-curriculum activities which reinforce the letter-sound relationships under investigation. They provide opportunities to extend understanding in a meaningful way through oral and written activities.
