| Developing Literacy: Poetry is a series of three photocopiable activity books for primary school teachers. Each book provides a range of poetry activities and supports the teaching of reading and writing skills at text, sentence and word levels.
The activities in Developing Literacy: Poetry Middle Primary encourage children to:
- Develop their enjoyment of poems with familiar settings, poems by significant children's poets, poems from different countries, poems with predictable and patterned language and poems with language play and other humourous devices
- Recite and perform poems
- Experiment with words, sounds, rhymes and rhythms
- Compose their own poems and rhymes, based on the structures of, and using some of the devices in, those that they read, with the aid of the frameworks provided
- Use their own notes and jottings to inform their writing and, with the aid of the frameworks provided, structure, plan and improve their poems |
