Feedback from maths teachers all around Australia tells us that schools require teaching resources to assist students with low literacy skills to fully participate in the curriculum. This series has been designed with features such as extended opportunities to master skills, completing work on screen, explicit instructions, and full colour examples – which research indicates will help low literacy students to achieve in maths. Each of the four units contain full-colour topic introductions with worked examples and diagrams that reinforce key mathematical concepts and skills. These introductions are ideal for whole class instruction on IWBs and student laptops.
The four topics in each unit contain interactive work sheets that can be completed on IWBs, on laptops or photocopies. These work sheets teach and reinforce important mathematical language, concepts and skills, and encourage mental computation skills. The repetitions of question types build student confidence while the hints and worked examples assist students to fully understand the mathematical concepts. The units finish with a skills review test which revises key concepts and skills featured in the unit work sheets. The tests provide a summary which may be used for revision and study or be used as a diagnostic tool to identify where students need to revisit a topic or work sheet. The teacher’s notes include lesson objectives, an indication of the minimum skills and knowledge student's require to complete the tasks, teaching tips and full answers.

Unit 1 Indices: Using index notation, investigating the index rules, negative and zero indices, scientific notation
Unit 2 Indices in algebra: Using indices in algebra, multiplication with indices, division with indices, using other index rules
Unit 3 Solving further equations: Equations using two steps, equations with pro numerals on both sides, equations with grouping symbols, equations involving fractions
Unit 4 Algebraic fractions: Simplifying algebraic fractions, adding and subtracting algebraic fractions, division with algebraic fractions, mixed operations
